The Mother Teresa Mission at Little Flower Catholic Church in Pensacola, Florida. The Mission is ran by members of the church, or volunteers wishing to better serve their community and those in need. The vision of the mission is, “In the spirit of the Gospel and through the example of St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Little Flower Catholic Church opens her arms to those in need in the wider Myrtle Grove Community”. The mission opens at 9 am on Wednesday and Fridays. The Mission offers clothing and prepackaged food to those in need in the community. Those receiving food can return once a month. The mission serves those in the Escambia county in need of assistance with obtaining food and clothing. The Mission began as a small group of those in the church passing out donated clothing from the trunk of the car on the parish grounds. Then Messenger Crawford arrived in the 90’s and created a structure and formal process to help serve the needy in the area. Now, the mission is able to offer clothing, household goods, and food as well on a weekly basis. The mission now serves approximately 250 to 300 families a month. The mission has also been able to help children who have a single parents out looking for work, young pregnant women in need of housing, and help veterans who are struggling get back on their feet. Donations are accepted through the parish office through the week or directly to the mission on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 to 11:30 am. The Mission also participates in the Angel Tree. The Angel Tree’s goal is to offer families a food box, one toy, shirts, pants, and shoes. These donations for the Angel Tree are distributed on the 17th of December with donations being received during the week of Thanksgiving. The mission begins collecting frozen turkeys or ham, instant potatoes, canned vegetables, and stuffing to donate for this program. The Mission requests donations for holiday giving starting the first of November for Thanksgiving, and the first of December for Christmas. For these two holidays, the Mission collects frozen turkeys or ham, instant potatoes, canned vegetables, cake mis, and stuffing as well. The mission does not accept large furniture, electronics, or medical supplies, however. The Mission also hosts a thrift shop on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 am and 11:30 am as well. Those wishing to participate through donations or volunteering at the Mother Teresa of Calcutta Mission can contact Little Flower Catholic church at 850-455-4508 or www.ptlittleflower.org.
